Explain the purpose and working of a fuse in a household circuit. How does it protect electrical appliances from damage? What rating of fuse would you use for a 2.2 kW heater connected to a 220 V supply?

Answer this OR Question 10 OR Question 11. (a) Define work and state its SI unit. Under what condition is work said to be zero? (b) A boy pushes a box along a horizontal surface with a force of 50 N. If the box moves a distance of 10 m in the direction of the applied force, calculate the work done. (c) State the principle of conservation of energy. A ball is dropped from a height of 20 m. Taking g = 10 m/s², calculate the velocity of the ball just before it hits the ground. Verify the conservation of mechanical energy at a height of 10 m from the ground.

(b) Name the seven colours of the visible spectrum in order from red to violet. Which colour has the longest wavelength and which has the highest frequency? (c) A ray of light incident on a glass prism at an angle of 60° undergoes refraction. The angle of refraction at the first surface is 30°. Calculate the refractive index of the glass. (sin 60° = 0.866, sin 30° = 0.5)

Answer this OR Question 9 OR Question 10. (a) Define loudness, pitch, and timbre of a sound. How are these related to the physical properties of sound waves? (b) The human ear can hear sounds with frequencies ranging from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. What are infrasonic and ultrasonic sounds? Give one practical application of ultrasonic waves. (c) Three resistors of 4 Ω, 6 Ω, and 12 Ω are connected in parallel to a 12 V battery. Calculate: (i) the equivalent resistance, (ii) the total current drawn from the battery, (iii) the current through the 4 Ω resistor.
